The Shades of Trades · Audit for Apoorva
An unsolicited content audit · updated 18 August 2026

@theshadesoftrades

Hi Apoorva — I'm Samyukth. I'd like to work on your content, so rather than send you a CV I spent a few days auditing your brand the way I'd work on it. This version is built on your last 108 posts — real like, comment and play counts — not guesswork.

Disclaimer Take this audit with a pinch of salt — it is built only from the public data visible on your Instagram page, so the real picture in your analytics may well differ. It is a broad outside view of what I think could be done, not a prescription. If you'd rather point at something else entirely, I'm happy to work on whatever you're actually aiming for.

The six things I'd work on first

Ranked by impact, not by effort, and every one of them measured against your last 108 posts. Open any row for the evidence and what I'd actually do.

1You tripled your output and your per-post reach halved● Critical▶

This is the clearest thing in the data, and I don't think it's visible from the inside — because likes and comments are the numbers you see day to day, and they moved less dramatically than plays did.

MonthPostsMedian playsMedian likesTotal plays
February841,9671,001357K
March632,377990230K
April1236,023846891K

June2622,916525694K
July3328,031653688K
Aug (to 17th)1121,894576223K

February to May you published around 10 posts a month and the median reel did ~35,000 plays. June to August you published around 30 a month and the median fell to ~24,000. Median likes fell further — from about 900 to about 580, a 36% drop.

Worth saying explicitly: this happened while the account was public and fully discoverable. It isn't a side-effect of any recent settings change. It's a straightforward volume effect.

Being fair to the other reading

Total monthly reach did rise: roughly 450K a month in the spring against roughly 690K in June and July. So the extra work bought something. But it bought about 50% more total reach for three times the output — and each individual post now works roughly half as hard as it did in April.

Cut back to 3 posts a week and put the recovered time into the top of each one. The evidence says your ceiling isn't set by how often you post — it's set by whether any given post earns distribution. Volume is currently buying diminishing returns and costing each post the attention it deserves.
2Your median reel reaches about 5.5% of your own followers● Critical▶

Across 97 reels: median 28,996 plays, quartiles at 20,591 and 40,236, floor 9,805, ceiling 416,230.

Against 524,752 followers, the median reel registers plays equal to about 5.5% of your audience — and plays count repeat views, so the share of real humans reached is lower still.

The engagement rate everyone quotes about you is wrong

Third-party estimators report your engagement rate as 0.6%. Measured against your actual median post — 701 likes and 16 comments against 524,752 followers — it is 0.14%. Those tools estimate from a handful of recent posts and tend to flatter large accounts.

I mention it because if that figure ever goes into a brand conversation and gets audited, it's an awkward moment. 0.14% is also a very explainable number for an account this size — but it should be the one you're working from.

Re-baseline on median plays, not likes and not third-party estimates. Median, because your 416K post drags the mean to 36K while a normal post does 29K. Everything in the plan below is measured against that 29K line.
3Selling directly is your worst-performing content — telling the story is among your best● High▶

This one surprised me, and it's the most immediately usable thing in the audit.

Your single worst post of the 108 — 9,805 plays, a third of your median — opens: "I have written a book that has my entire trading strategy…". Another straight book post, "Get access to the book: Link in bio", did 14,200. A launch-anniversary post did 16,400.

But "One Strategy, One Book & the kind of shift that most traders keep chasing for years" did 103,324 — your second-best post ever. And "This draft, this book was supposed…" did 54,655.

Same product. Roughly a 10× spread, depending entirely on whether the post announces the thing or tells the story around it.

Ban the announcement post. Every product post becomes a story, a lesson or a build-in-public moment that happens to contain the book. Your audience isn't allergic to being sold to — they're allergic to being addressed as an audience being sold to. This alone would meaningfully change what your launches earn.
4Repeating yourself is measurably expensive● High▶

I flagged this before as a hunch. Now there are numbers on it.

  • The "when oil is up and war is ongoing… USDINR" reel ran on 31 March and did 67,503. The same reel ran again on 17 August and did 16,132 — 24% of the original, and one of your ten weakest posts of the period.
  • "Gold Reversal or Just a Retracement?" ran on 9 August (27,500). "Gold: Retracement or Reversal?" ran six days later (21,900) — 80%, and the second one taught nothing the first hadn't.

A reposted reel doesn't restart from zero — it restarts from a lower base, because a large share of the people it would reach have already seen it and swiped past. Instagram reads that as a weak signal.

A content log with a 90-day rule. No topic and no cut repeats inside 90 days. If a subject is worth revisiting, it gets a genuinely new angle and a new hook — a follow-up, a reversal, a "what I got wrong". That's a different post, and it performs like one.
5What actually travels — and three things that turn out not to matter● High▶

Your biggest post ever is a live, dated market read. Posted 2 April, caption in full: "April 3-5, 2026. The Charts tell the truth much early!" — 32 seconds, eight words, 416,230 plays, 6,450 likes, 180 comments. Fourteen times your median. Nothing else you've published is close.

Gold is a modest edge, not a landslide. Posts naming gold, silver or commodities (n=10) run a median of 34,689 against 28,852 for everything else — about +20%, with likes essentially flat. Real, worth leaning into, but a ten-post sample and not the transformation I'd have guessed from your YouTube.

Mindset content is not your problem. By a rough keyword split, your psychology posts run a median of ~30,200 plays and the highest median likes of any group (876). Generic teaching posts with no named market run lowest, at ~22,100. So the fix isn't "less mindset" — it's "less generic".

Three things that don't matter, so stop spending time on them

  • Length. Median plays by duration: under 30s → 28,996 · 30–45s → 30,639 · 45–60s → 29,967 · 60–90s → 27,475 · over 90s → 31,993. Essentially flat. Your median reel is 68 seconds and that's fine.
  • Posting day. Wednesday leads (34,585) and Monday trails (22,072), but on 8–23 posts a day the noise is larger than the signal. Not worth restructuring around.
  • Carousels and static posts. 97 of your 108 posts are reels, and reels earn a median of 736 likes against 457 for images and 222 for carousels. Reels-first is already the right call.
The pattern across all of it: what earns you distribution is specificity about a live market — a named instrument, a dated call, a trade you're actually in. Not the format, not the length, not the day. That's a content brief, and it's a narrow enough one to execute against.
6One housekeeping note on the account setting● Worth a look▶

The account is set to private at the moment. I assume that's deliberate and recent, and none of the analysis above depends on it — every number in this document comes from the period when the account was public.

One thing worth knowing, in case it wasn't the intention: Instagram doesn't allow professional accounts to be private, so the switch also moves the account to personal. That turns off Insights entirely — reach, saves, shares, demographics, profile visits. It's why sections 06 and 07 flag several metrics as currently unavailable.

If the privacy is temporary, nothing to do. If it's staying for a while, it's worth knowing the measurement layer is switched off alongside it — and that reach to non-followers is paused too. Either way it's a two-tap decision, not a strategy problem.

Platform rules do change; worth confirming in-app rather than taking my word for it.

The evidence

108 Instagram posts, 7 February to 17 August 2026. Real play, like and comment counts. Hover anything.

Output went up. Reach per post went down.
Two views of the same seven months. Posting volume roughly tripled in June; the median reel lost about a third of its plays and the median post lost 36% of its likes.

The distribution across 97 reels. The gap between the median and your best post is the whole story — one post did 14× what a normal post does.

By subject — directional, not decisive
A keyword split of 97 reel captions. Treat the ordering as a steer rather than proof: the buckets are crude, and "promo" and "timely" are small samples. The pattern that survives the crudeness is that generic teaching trails everything.

The cross-check: your top five on YouTube
Instagram is the main evidence above; this is the second opinion. On YouTube — where the audience arrives by searching rather than scrolling — the ranking inverts, and concrete how-to wins outright. Same person, same topics, two different jobs. Hover or tap a panel.

Content mix — now vs proposed
The "now" row is now measured from the 108-post sample rather than estimated. The proposed mix shifts weight toward live-market content without gutting the psychology posts, which earn your highest likes.

What's already working

An audit that only finds faults isn't an audit, it's a sales pitch. These are real assets and I'd protect them.

◆You have real differentiationYou're one of very few women running a serious, non-tip-based trading education brand in India, and you've barely touched the angle. It's the one thing on this page a competitor cannot copy by working harder.
◆Commodities is a genuine, measured edgePosts naming gold, silver or commodities run a median 34,689 plays against 28,852 for everything else. It's a modest lift on a ten-post sample rather than a landslide — but it points the same way as your two biggest posts of the year, and almost nobody else in Indian finance content is there.
◆"Not SEBI-registered" is in your bioIn the current regulatory climate that's exactly the right instinct. I'd defend it, not quietly drop it as the brand grows.
◆Your production quality is solidClean framing, good lighting, confident delivery. And the data says length doesn't matter, format is already right, and posting day barely moves the needle — so the craft genuinely isn't the constraint. Packaging and topic selection are, and those are the cheapest things in the world to change.
◆You can clearly ship108 posts in six months, no gaps, at up to 33 a month. Consistency is the hardest habit to install and you plainly have it. Finding 02 argues for pointing that capacity somewhere else — but the capacity itself is the asset, and it's why I think this account can move quickly.
05

A 30-day content plan I'd run

Three reels a week, not seven. That is the deliberate consequence of finding 02 — your median post lost a third of its reach when volume tripled, so the plan buys that reach back by publishing less and aiming better. Twelve posts, every hook real, weighted toward the live-market content the data actually rewards.

How I'd measure it

Vanity metrics won't tell you whether any of this worked. I'd report these four weekly. Two of them need a Creator account to read — noted below, since the account is on personal while it's private.

Metric 01 · needs Creator
Non-follower reach %
The only true measure of whether discovery is working.
Metric 02 · needs Creator
Saves + shares per reel
Instagram's actual ranking currency — likes are the weakest of the three.
Metric 03
Lead-magnet opt-ins
The first honest read on what 524,752 followers are actually worth.
Metric 04
Median plays, not average
Your 416K post drags the mean to 36K while the median sits at 29K.
Month-one targets
Deliberately modest and checkable. A target you can't fail is a target you can't learn from.
What I still couldn't see
I can now measure likes, comments, plays, formats, timing and topics. These are the things that stay dark until the account type changes.
☐Follower demographicsAge, gender split, city. The whole plan shifts if your audience is 80% male 18–24 versus a broader mix — and right now nobody knows which it is.
☐Saves and sharesThe two signals Instagram actually ranks on. I can see likes; likes are the weakest of the three.
☐How much of your reach is followers vs. discoveryThe 5.5% figure is plays against follower count. Whether those plays are mostly your followers or mostly Explore is the single most useful thing Insights would tell you.
☐Profile visits and link clicks per reelWhich posts actually send people to the bio — the step immediately before a sale.
☐Real conversion on the ₹2,100 bookAnd exactly where in the funnel people drop out.
☐What people ask for most in your DMsThat's free content research, sitting unread.

Three things the data made me take back

The first version of this audit was written before I could see your posts. Two of its conclusions didn't survive contact with the numbers, and I'd rather show you that than quietly delete them.

✕"Your engagement rate is 0.6%"That was a third-party estimate and it's roughly four times too generous. Measured on your median post, it's 0.14%. Estimator tools flatter large accounts.
✕"Concrete how-to content is what breaks out for you"True on YouTube, where people search. On Instagram it's your weakest group — generic teaching runs a median of 22,072 with a ceiling of 44,700. What travels here is a named instrument and a dated call.
✕"Cut the mindset content back hard"Wrong. Psychology posts run a median of 30,192 plays and earn your highest median likes. They're currently 52% of output, which is too much — but they're doing a real job. Halve them, don't gut them.
08

The short version

You have 524,752 followers, a live-market instinct that produced a 416,000-play post, and — right now — no way to see any of it working.

Post three times a week instead of seven — tripling your output cost you a third of your reach per post, and bought only 50% more total. Point most of that output at live markets, where your numbers are measurably best. Stop announcing the book and start telling its story; that gap alone is worth about 10×. None of this is a rebuild — it's a change of aim, and the data says which way to aim. That's the job I'd like to do.
